Endowments
You make a difference in the life of a student when you make a gift to the University of New England. When you establish an endowment, you make a difference forever.
What is an endowment?
An endowment is similar to a permanent savings account made up of numerous individual funds. Your tax-deductible donation is carefully invested to yield a steady, reliable source of income for today’s students and allows an institution to make commitments to future generations of students.
Endowment provides scholarships to talented and deserving students; attracts dedicated, senior-level faculty through professorships; provides opportunities for student and faculty research; and provides students with academic programs and opportunities beyond what student tuition would fund. Endowment also maintains the buildings and classrooms where our students learn and can support the arts, public service and athletics.
Endowment gifts are invested
The principal is prudently invested and earnings are distributed annually. Each year the university spends approximately five percent of the funds’ earnings. Earnings above five percent are reinvested in the fund to help increase its value and ensure the funds are preserved for the future.
Endowment gifts are perpetual
Endowment gifts create a ripple effect as one generation assists the next and the honoree’s name lives on in perpetuity. A name given to an endowment may memorialize or honor a loved one, friend, colleague or teacher.
Whatever area of study you most care about, be it health professions, arts and sciences, osteopathic medicine or pharmacy, your gift today will ensure University of New England students become the leaders of tomorrow.
Endowment growth and goals
A strong endowment fund demonstrates an institutions’ financial stability, competitiveness and indicates the trust donors place in the fiscal responsibility of the administration. It allows institutions to engage in long-range planning with confidence, knowing the resources will be available to complete important projects.
Endowment – an investment in success
A strong endowment impacts the success of University of New England and our students.
- Endowment provides scholarships and financial assistance to enable the most deserving students, with more ambition than financial resources, to attend University of New England.
- Endowment enhances the faculty by funding professorships, allowing students access to first-rate educators without burdening the tuition budget.
- Endowment strengthens academics and allows the university to create new programs of study, initiate research, and maintain libraries and laboratories to meet regional and national needs.
- Endowment enhances community outreach as our academic institutes embrace learning and expand the national reputation of University of New England.
- Endowment provides for improvement and maintenance of facilities.
Endowment – an investment in UNE students
As a private institution, University of New England relies on the contributions of donors rather than state funding. Scholarships make tuition more affordable and the university more competitive to recruit top students.
Scholarships also keep higher education more affordable for future generations. By attracting talented scholars, financial aid strengthens our academic community and quality of the UNE educational experience.
Endowments are more durable than bricks and mortar and will outlast virtually any other kind of gift. Our endowment fund ensures a stable base of resource to help sustain University of New England as a premiere university for students in decades to come.
Make a difference – forever
