The Heritage Society

The Heritage Society was established in the 1980s in recognition of those individuals who have demonstrated their commitment to the future of the University of New England and the Westbrook College Campus by including the institution in their wills or estate plans, in the form of planned gifts.

For many, planned giving is the best way to leave a lasting legacy to those institutions and causes in which they believe, because during one's lifetime, money is tied up in assets and is not available for charitable purposes. Good estate planning also offers income, capital gains and estate tax benefits.

Plans to Meet Your Needs

There are many planned giving vehicles that can be tailored to individual needs and circumstances. In most cases, planned gifts are made out of donor's assets, rather than current income, and usually involve a deferred gift that will provide current or ongoing benefits to the donor or a designated beneficiary. Some planned gifts can provide immediate capital funds for the institution. However, the majority of planned gifts are deferred into the future.

Contact

If you, or a family member, are interested in exploring the benefits of charitable giving through estate planning, Assistant Vice President of Institutional Advancement, Scott Marchildon, offers confidential, no-fee planned giving consultation and referral services. However, it is our policy to encourage all potential planned gift donors to discuss and review their plans with their own financial advisor and tax planner. To schedule an appointment, please call (207) 221-4230.
