The Need for Pharmacists
Pharmacists are a vital part of the healthcare team, dispensing medications and providing critical face-to-face advice and assistance – from advising an elderly person with multiple prescriptions, to counseling a young mother about over-the-counter medications for her sick child.
Nationally, nearly 70,000 new pharmacists will be needed by 2012, and as a rural state with the nation’s oldest population, Maine’s need is among the most acute.
University of New England's Solution
The University of New England is a regional leader in healthcare education and research. In keeping with that mission, in 2006 UNE announced the launch of the College of Pharmacy, and will enroll its first class of Pharm. D. students in the fall of 2009. The University’s College of Pharmacy will focus on three major areas:
