Gifts to Place support state-of the-art facilities, university archives and collections, and campus improvements.

Harold Alfond Forum

A gift from the Harold Alfond Foundation - the largest gift in the University’s history – established Harold Alfond Forum in 2012 on the Biddeford Campus. The Forum provides a home for UNE athletics and exercise and health science classes as well as student meetings and recreation.

Alumni Hall

Throughout its 170-year history, Alumni Hall has been home to classrooms, study areas, lounges, a chapel and lecture/performance spaces. The last renovation was completed in 1968, and the building has been closed since 2004.

With increased overall enrollment and two new colleges on the Portland Campus, space for classes and student life activities is at a premium. The project to restore Alumni Hall for students, faculty, staff and alumni is at the heart of Place, and reflects a signature priority of the campaign. Current plans include rooms for classes, lectures, receptions, interprofessional education activities, and alumni gatherings; student study areas and lounges; and administrative offices.

Gifts from the estates of Westbrook Junior College alumnae including Dorothy Wallace Dixon ’41, Connie Strout-Wood ’54, and Prudence Weaver Dickey ’49 have served as the foundation of this fundraising effort.

Archives and Collections

Gifts to Place support the growth and preservation of university archives and collections, including the New England Osteopathic Heritage Center and the Art Gallery.

Campus Improvements

Gifts to campus improvements support campus beautification and historic preservation, including the creation of a permanent history display for the 50th Anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s visit to St. Francis College.
