User's Guide: Exercises

Each individual uses certain muscles more than others to perform their job. Optimal flexibility, strength and endurance in these muscles allows for ease of movement, better circulation to the working tissues and improved posture.

1.   Exercise on a regular basis, not sporadically.

2.   Start slowly, and gradually increase repetitions.

3.   None of the exercises should cause pain or lingering discomfort. Some discomfort may be felt as you first start the program, especially if some stiffness and/or weakness is present.

4.   If you suspect you may already have an overuse injury, it is advisable to consult a physician or physical therapist prior to initiating exercises.

The following exercises are suggested to minimize the risk of developing an overuse injury for the VDT user. It is recommended the stretches be done at the beginning and end of the workday, and during regularly scheduled stretch breaks. The strengthening exercises should be performed 1-2 times daily.
