About HealthWISE
A subcommittee of the Benefits Committee, the HealthWISE Committee conceptualizes and implements programs and activities designed to help support the health of all UNE employees. Committee members come from many different disciplines within the University and bring a variety of ideas and resources to the creative process.
Mission Statement
To enhance the quality of life for the UNE faculty and staff by providing health and wellness information and resources; and by sponsoring wellness-related activities that promote and improve healthy lifestyles.

HealthWISE Activities
Employee Wellness Program
A yearly program dedicated to maintaining or improving the health and wellness of UNE employees. The main focus is Fitness and Nutrition, along with educational materials and seminars to promote well-being. All University employees are eligible. March Into May Exercise Promotion

March Into May is a 10-week physical activity program developed by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that encourages each participant to 1.) Set personal goals for moderate levels of exercise, and 2.) Monitor progress and achievement of those goals. For more information, contact Meg Ladd at mladd@une.edu

Walk 100 miles in 100 Days

A wellness program aimed at promoting physical, emotional and mental health through walking. The program runs from June to September. For more information, contact Emily Rines at erines@une.edu 
Stairway to Health
Stairway to Health is an ongoing poster campaign to promote stairway utilization and less reliance on elevators.  For more information, contact fitness director at 602-2509.
Tobacco Policy

The new policy, instituted in 2003, aims to strengthen the existing "No Smoking" policy and reduce exposure to second hand smoke by moving all smoking areas at least 50 feet away from all buildings, covered breezeways and walkways.  A “Tobacco Awareness” subcommittee exists to support the ongoing policies and to develop awareness and cessation programs for all members of the UNE community.  See the website for more information or contact Elisabeth Haase at ehaase@une.edu

Employee Health and Fitness Day

National Employee Health and Fitness Day is the third (3rd) Wednesday in May each year.  Administered annually by the National Association for Health & Fitness, NEHF is a national observance, created to promote the benefits of physical activity for individuals through their work site health promotion activities.  Founded in 1989 National Employee Health and Fitness Day has enlisted tens of thousands of participants from employers around the world.  For more information, contact Meg Ladd  at mladd@une.edu


Coastal Healthy Communities Coalition

Coastal Healthy Communities Coalition (CHCC), a unit of the College of Osteopathic Medicine's Division of Community Programs, is located on the University Campus in Biddeford. It is one of 31 coalitions funded by the Bureau of Health with Maine's tobacco settlement monies. The CHCC's main goals are to promote and support tobacco prevention and cessation activities as well as encouraging life-long physical activity and nutritional habits. Fitness Center Information

UC Campus Center/BodyWISE
Department of Health and Wellness Education  The Health and Wellness Education Department is housed under the Division of Student Affairs and is located in the Campus Center on the University Campus in Biddeford, Maine.  There are three programs within the department:  The HealthFirst Student Wellness Program, addressing student health and the campus climate; the UNE Employee Wellness Program, designed to foster a healthy work environment; and the bodyWISE Community Wellness Program, serving UNE alumni and the surrounding Biddeford community.

WCC Finley Center
The Finley Recreation Center, located on the Westbrook College Campus of the University of New England, provides University students, faculty, and staff with a variety of fitness, health, wellness, and recreational programs. These programs, designed to meet the unique needs of the University population, are also made available to the members of the local community.
