Job Description

To supervise designated University residence halls and to administer and coordinate residence life programs for students living in those facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, oversee, coordinate or carry out a variety of tasks related to physical  maintenance of assigned housing facilities:
  • Monitor physical status of buildings regularly and report any needed maintenance work/repairs to Facilities Management or other appropriate personnel and/or departments;
  • Assist with assessment, prorating and billing of damage costs to students;
  • Assist in planning, and implementation of damage prevention programs.
  • Supervise/implement appropriate procedures during emergency / crisis situations in  residence halls, in conjunction with supervisor, Housing staff, Facilities Management.  Security, Health Services, Counseling, and off-campus agencies (local authorities,  medical facilities/personnel, etc.) as required.
  • Supervise student resident advisors:
  • Assist in planning for and conducting training programs and inservices;
  • Coordinate weekly staff meetings;
  • Conduct regularly scheduled one on ones;
  • Confer regularly with staff to plan and coordinate programming and activities;
  • Evaluate RA’s.
  • In cooperation with RA staff, promote the development of community through passive  and active programming, supporting the academic and developmental needs of  traditional college-age students.
  • Oversee daily residence hall operations.
  • Coordinate area-specific RA Calendar, including but not limited to programming, duty  schedules, departmental needs and special assignments, etc.
  • Make regular daily rounds of assigned facilities, and deal with a variety of issues that  arise.
  • Interpret and enforce a wide variety of University and residence life policies and  procedures governing student behavior.
  • Participate in and implement appropriate formal and informal disciplinary procedures as  necessary and conduct judicial reviews, referring situations to supervisor, campus judicial  committees, local authorities, etc., as necessary.
  • Informally investigate, assess and determine appropriate methods of resolving various  interpersonal and community problems in the halls such as conflicts between roommates  or floor mates, vandalism, and the like.
  • Coordinate the opening and closing of the residence halls.
  • Provide oversight of area specific programming budget.
  • Advise and counsel individual students on a wide range of academic, personal and disciplinary matters, referring to various on or off-campus resources as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with supervisor on the identification of specific goals or a functional area to  be explored through participation in a year-long collateral assignment, consisting of 3-5  hours per week, spent in partnership with a mutually agreed upon department.
  • Supervise and coordinate a variety of on-going and special programs and events for  residents.
  • Advise assigned RA Committee.
  • Participate in an assigned University committee.
  • Assist in the coordination of the RA Selection process.
  • Assist with department publications and web page.
  • Confer regularly with immediate supervisor, Student Affairs staff, and other University  personnel to plan, coordinate and evaluate programs/activities/policies, exchange  information, investigate and resolve problems, and refer students.
  • Participate in evening and weekend duty coverage on a rotational basis with other  designated professional staff.
  • Assist in a variety of campus wide events and activities as needed including but not  limited to Commencement, Orientation and Spring Semi Formal.
  • Assist the Director in the planning, administration and evaluation of the various functions,  programs and services of the residential program and department.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required.

Master's Degree in higher education or related field preferred.
