Job Status: Full-time
Primary Location: Biddeford
Job Description
The University of New England College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for an Associate or Full Professor of Composition and Rhetoric to begin Fall 2010, pending budgetary approval. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Composition and Rhetoric, but the area of specialization is open: candidates with teaching and research interests in writing in the disciplines, and/or developmental writing, are especially encouraged to apply. Experience in program development and assessment and writing program administration, as well as a record of successful grant writing, are highly desirable.
The new Professor of Composition and Rhetoric will join the Department of English and Language Studies. Teaching will be the successful candidate’s primary responsibility, but a reduced course load will enable him or her to lead efforts to assess and improve the teaching of writing, both within our revised Core Curriculum and across the College of Arts and Sciences. Administrative duties will include coordinating the teaching of English Composition, hiring adjunct faculty, and overseeing a working group of faculty to develop and implement coherent plans for helping undergraduate students meet standards of basic writing and writing in their disciplines.
Salary and benefits are competitive. Additional compensation for leading summer writing institutes for faculty will be offered.
* Background check may be required.
