Job Description
A tenure-track Assistant Professor position is available to a well-qualified individual with a recent PhD in Chemical or Biogeochemical Oceanography. Candidate will join a small but growing department with undergraduate and graduate programs in Marine Sciences. The successful applicant will be expected to develop an externally funded research program and participate in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
The University of New England has two beautiful campuses: the 425-acre Biddeford Campus located on the southern coast of Maine and the 40-acre Westbrook College Campus in Portland. The Marine Sciences programs are housed on the seaside campus in Biddeford in the Marine Science Center. The facility houses offices, classroom, teaching and research labs, a flow-through seawater system, a marine mammal rehabilitation center, and a fleet of small boats. The department has students from across the country, with over 200 undergraduate majors, 17 graduate students, 7 tenure-track faculty and 2 lecturers. In addition, the university has strong programs in the medical and health professions, the neurosciences, and the liberal arts. The area affords a high-quality lifestyle with outstanding recreational and cultural opportunities.
Responsibilities
Teaching responsibilities include chemical and/or geological sections of introductory oceanography and advanced oceanography courses, a graduate seminar, and upper division courses in the applicant’s area of expertise.
Qualifications
Doctoral degree in Chemical or Biogeochemical Oceanography or closely related field required.
Preferred qualifications:
Postdoctoral experience and ongoing research are preferred. Expertise in areas of nutrient chemistry, trace metals, stable isotopes, toxicology, or acidification is desirable. Research experience in land-sea interactions and/or climate change is considered a bonus.
