Job Description
We seek a model mentor, teacher and researcher who is qualified to hold the position of a tenured professor or associate professor.
Responsibilities
The new chair/director will be expected to:
- ensure excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service;
- increase the level and scope of extramural funding that supports academic and research initiatives in the MSC and the CLSI;
- develop a national reputation for UNE’s marine science programs;
- expand on UNE’s excellence in master’s-level and undergraduate research; and
- enhance the programs’ outreach efforts in the community and the region.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will
- bring an established, externally funded, research program;
- have proven experience and skills in leadership, administration, mentoring and strategic planning; and
- the ability to work cooperatively with university and extramural partners to advance the mission of UNE’s marine sciences.
- The ability to build connections between the marine sciences and human and community health disciplines is preferred.
The MSC houses a variety of programs including a marine mammal rehabilitation center that attracts faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates from across the country. The facilities are housed on UNE’s Biddeford Maine campus, located at the confluence of the Saco River and the Atlantic Ocean.
The campus is also home to the College of Arts & Sciences and College of Osteopathic Medicine. The Portland Maine campus houses the Westbrook College of Health Professions and the College of Pharmacy. Both campuses afford a high-quality lifestyle with outstanding recreational and cultural opportunities. The university has strong programs in the medical and health professions, the neurosciences and the liberal arts, all areas in which collaboration is possible.
