Job Description

Applications are invited for the position of Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Physics at the University of New England. We seek an energetic, enthusiastic individual prepared to lead the continuing development of a dynamic, growing Department within the University's College of Arts and Sciences. The successful applicant will have strong communication and organizational skills, a record of ongoing scholarly accomplishment, a general understanding of administrative processes, academic experience, a thorough understanding of curricular issues related to chemistry and biochemistry major programs, as well as service courses including general chemistry and general physics, and a strong commitment to undergraduate education, including undergraduate research.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have administrative experience and will oversee departmental operations including curriculum, planning, personnel, and budgetary matters. The Chair will also have teaching responsibilities and expectations for scholarship.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in chemistry or a closely-related, chemistry-intensive field, plus a record of excellence in teaching, research, and service are required. The area of chemical specialization is open, but preference will be given to applicants whose expertise complements the strengths and specializations of the current faculty. Rank and salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience.
