Job Description
To develop and manage continuing medical education programs.
Responsibilities
Primary
- Plan, implement, administer, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate all UNE continuing health and medical education programs for physicians, nurses, EMT candidates, and other health professionals.
- Develop and modify programs and related operating policies and procedures in accordance with institutional objectives and participant needs.
- Supervise a part-time secretary and work study students.
- Keep abreast of current trends and developments in the field. Coordinate and carry out a number of key research, planning and evaluation tasks, typically involving analysis of current trends and student needs, establishing short- and long-term goals and priorities, program design and evaluation, development of marketing goals and strategies, publications planning, fiscal and enrollment projections, course pricing, and the like.
- Prepare grants, contracts and program proposals to secure external funds. Serve as project manager for grants and contracts awarded to unit, both local and international.
- Recruit faculty for various programs.
- Negotiate compensation and coordinate contract preparation.
- Arrange logistical support (i.e., food service, meeting space, signage, registration) to support program offerings. Oversee/perform a wide variety of tasks related to making necessary physical arrangements for conferences and programs, including delivery of short courses at various off-campus sites.
- Coordinate/carry out a variety of marketing and public relations functions, such as: plan and implement promotional plans for individual programs; develop appropriate mailing lists and supervise mailings; select/prepare course descriptions, brochures, and general promotional literature; and the like.
- Coordinate billing/payment with accounting personnel.
- Plan and administer operating budgets for programs. Prepare income/expense projections and reports.
- Confer regularly with the Dean of ADEP, UNECOM personnel, other University departments, alumni, medical associations and other community-based health and medical organizations to plan, coordinate and evaluate programs/services/activities, exchange information, investigate and resolve problems, and the like. Serve on University committees.
- Plan and administer appropriate recordkeeping and reporting systems related to assigned functions.
- Prepare various administrative reports, planning documents and program summaries.
- Attend meetings and conferences of medical/health associations.
- Perform other related duties as may be assigned by the Dean.
- Develop relationships with external partners to promote new programs and opportunities.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Functional supervision of two full time employees and work study students. Faculty oversight/coordination/evaluation.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Direction is received from the Dean of the College of Professional & Continuing Studies.
Qualifications
Master's degree in an appropriate discipline, plus two to four years of relevant administrative and organizational experience, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
- Strong program planning, administrative, and organizational skills; good budget management and basic supervisory skills.
- Solid base of knowledge and skills related to designing and administering adult and continuing education programs, with some relevant experience in the health professions.
- Ability to deal effectively with a variety of University personnel/departments, as well as outside professional associations and community organizations.
