Job Description
Director of Financial Aid will provide leadership and hands-on direction to the team responsible for administering all student financial aid funds from all sources including University, private scholarships, federal Title IV and other funds, state grants and various loan funds across current and prospective undergraduate, graduate, and professional students populations.
Reporting to the Executive Director of Student Financial Services, the successful candidate must have a strong record of managing financial aid operations and will possess a comprehensive knowledge of all federal, state and local financial aid policies, procedures, and regulations. S/he must demonstrate highly developed skills in complex financial analysis, monitoring, reporting and control, as well as superior management skills needed to maximize organizational resources and improve the customer experience; review, update, and document policies, procedures, and practices for the financial aid application, awarding, and packaging. A strong command of Banner and report writing via Microsoft Access is highly desirable.
Responsibilities
Administer, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate the various functions and services of the financial aid operations, including policies, procedures and methods. Under the direction of the Director of Student Financial Services, develop and modify policies and procedures in accordance with changing institutional resources and federal regulations.
- Supervise professional financial aid staff members.
- Plan and conduct training programs.
- Coordinate activities, assign and review work, assist with difficult or unusual tasks, resolve problems, and the like.
- Evaluate job performance.
- Oversee/carry out the packaging of individual financial aid awards: review applications, determine eligibility, verify accuracy of data, compute need, authorize disbursement of funds.
- Keep abreast of all relevant government regulations governing financial aid. Incorporate same into University policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Monitor and adjust awards as necessary to ensure compliance.
- Interpret policies and regulations for special circumstances.
- Represents the University in meetings with external organizations and individuals as appropriate.
- Plan and administer appropriate manual and computerized financial aid recordkeeping and reporting systems.
- Manage reconciliation of financial aid funds.
- Prepare a variety of administrative/management reports.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Direction is received from the Director of Student Financial Services
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree, plus 7 years related experience, 4 of which are in a financial aid office supervisory capacity; experience with the administration of federal student financial aid programs; and working knowledge of automated financial aid delivery systems, COD, (SCT Banner preferred). Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, organizational and analytical skills are essential. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required. Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills are vital.
- Broad-based technical knowledge of financial aid funding mechanisms, regulations, needs analysis methods, and aid packaging techniques.
- Good planning, organizational, administrative, and supervisory skills.
- Good writing, math, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- General knowledge of accounting principles and methods, and data processing systems, with some systems development experience desirable.
- Good counseling/advising skills.
- Ability to deal effectively with students, parents, and administrators, as well as funding agencies and various outside organizations, including public speaking skills.
