Job Description

The School of Social Work Program Director oversees all aspects of the School of Social Work (SSW) in both its campus-based and on-line programs to assure quality and effectiveness. This includes SSW organization, administration, fiscal management, planning, development, evaluation, and accreditation.

Responsibilities

  • Creates a standard of excellence through effective leadership practices
  • Manages the day to day operations of the SSW, including campus-based and on-line programs.
  • Supervises the principal and instructional faculty in all activities that relate directly to the SSW. 
  • Coordinates and maintains communication with the Dean, other Department Directors and Program faculty concerning SSW’s activities.
  • Represents the school, college, and university to the community at large, including other health education programs, potential employers, state officials concerned with planning and delivery of health and social care services, and relevant professional organizations such as the Council on Social Work Education and the National Association of Social Workers. 
  • Oversees internal admissions procedures and coordinates with enrollment management to insure quality applicant pool and selection process.
  • Oversees the process of curriculum development and renewal
  • Supports a culture of scholarly inquiry and research as appropriate.
  • Oversees development and submission of appropriate grant applications.
  • Oversees the accreditation process.
  • Oversees a process of continuous program evaluation and quality improvement.
  • Understands and complies with the University of New England Safety Manual.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Supervision Exercised:

Administrative and functional supervision of the SSW's staff and faculty

Supervision Received:

Administrative supervision is received from the Dean of the Westbrook College of Health Professions.
 

Qualifications

Must have an MSW and a doctorate in social work or a related field. Must have a combination of academic experience including teaching, service, and scholarship to be eligible for appointment at the rank of associate professor or above.  

  • Should demonstrate proven leadership skills, and the capacity to manage complex systems in an evolving academic environment. 
  • Knowledgeable in current Social Work education practices and able to lead faculty in implementation of same.  
  • Ability to interact with both internal and external arenas dealing with the social work profession.
  • The ability to serve an advocate for the program within the institution and in the broader health and social care environment.
  • Experience in grant writing and the preparation of accreditation documents.
