Online Learning Specialist/Technologist

Job Description

Position works with all levels of faculty to develop, maintain and revise all online courses utilizing state-of-the-art technology, design principles and effective pedagogy for distance learning students. Provides support to faculty in the adoption of technologies for traditional and non-traditional instruction. Provides technical instruction to faculty, staff and students as necessary. Provides recommendations for additional technologies that assist in online learning.

Responsibilities

  • Provides development and launch support for all electronically delivered classes in order to meet course deadlines. 
  • Provides technical assistance and resources for faculty in using/maximizing electronic platforms in use for online courses.
  • Develops documentation, templates and handbooks to assist faculty in developing curriculum for web-based delivery.
  • Converts hard copy instructional materials (Word, PowerPoint, scan-able documents, video, audio, etc.) to effective electronic format appropriate to enhance student learning.
  • Creates, alters and maintains web sites used with respect to distance learning programs.
  • Participates in course-related meetings providing input on capabilities and limitations of systems.
  • Provides professional development to instructors on effective web-based teaching methods.
  • Identifies and applies new resources to support on-line course development.
  • Maintains current knowledge of web based teaching technology to enhance the online learning processes and makes recommendations for purchase, enhancement of current technology.
  • Provides technical support to education faculty and off campus students to problem-solve technical issues as needed.
  • Completes new employee orientation and sexual harassment training within 30 days of the date of hire.
  • Understands and complies with the University of New England Safety Manual.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree in technology related fields, plus three years of relevant higher education experience associated with learning management systems and distance education software, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired. 

  • Extensive experience with computers (MAC and PC platforms), and associated distance learning software. 
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite including Dreamweaver. Flash experience desirable.. 
  • Proficiency in HTML and Javascript. 
  • Experience in multimedia design and production. 
  • Understanding of Communication Design and GUI principles and best practices. 
  • Understands the learning methods and needs of the adult learner. 
  • Working knowledge of document preparation. 
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to work interdependently, independently with minimum supervision. 
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively and professionally with a broad spectrum. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality. 
  • Masters degree desirable.
