POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

BASIC FUNCTION
Perform directed and independent research in the College of Arts and Sciences.  Devise and implement novel laboratory or field experiments.  Analyze data and prepare results for publication. 

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for designing and executing laboratory or field experiments.
  • Build and operate specialized equipment for experiments.
  • Evaluate commercially-available scientific instrumentation.
  • Prepare experimental samples, operate recording devices to record data
  • Using specialized computer programs, evaluate and analyze acquired data.
  • Provide supervision to graduate and undergraduate students and technicians.
  • Assume lead role in manuscript preparation.
  • Participate in grant proposal writing.
  • Understands and complies wit MSDS and HAZCOM procedures and policies as part of UNE's comprehensive OSHA compliance program
  • Understand and comply with OSHA requirements (29 CFR Part 1910) for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as defined by the University Chemical Hygiene Officers, the Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator (EHSC), the supervisor and Chapter 17 of the University of New England Safety Manual.
  • Understand and comply with the University of New England Safety Manual.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
General supervision is received from the Project Director.

QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. in a relevant science or engineering discipline.  Strong background, including published or submitted papers, in aspects of biology, physics, chemistry, geology, or engineering that are germane to the project.

  • Practical research experience in the laboratory or field
  • Ability to design and carry out projects in consultation with supervisor
  • Ability to work independently to devise novel experiments
  • Ability to analyze, present, and publish results
