Job Description
The Research Associate will play an important role in furthering the policy and evaluation research agenda at the Center and with the Maine CDC and other partners in and outside the university. The position requires a professional who is knowledgeable about chronic disease and trained in evaluation and research methods and analytical (statistical) techniques, works collaboratively with project teams and external partners/stakeholders and exercises good judgment with respect to the Center’s role as a leader in health services, health policy and program evaluation research and consulting.
Responsibilities
- Effectively provides scientific support and leadership on evaluation studies.
- Works with project team to complete high quality research and evaluation projects on time and in budget.
- Ability to increase evaluation practice capacity of program staff through a participatory process.
- Provides support for other Center initiatives to complete grant requirements.
- Assists in the analysis of study questions using complex data sets (sample survey, administrative and qualitative data); writes up reports on findings.
- Identifies, prepares and/or leads development of grants, research and consulting reports.
- Assists in planning and executing Center strategic direction and project focus.
- Communicates effectively on project and administrative issues.
- Presents projects findings to a variety of lay and scientific audiences.
- Observes confidentiality and privacy rules and regulation.
- Completes new employee orientation and sexual harassment training within 30 days of the date of hire.
- Understands and complies with the University of New England Safety Manual.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
General supervision is received from the Executive Director of CCPH.
Qualifications
Masters or Doctorate in epidemiology, public health, demography, or related field, plus two years of relevant experience in health related research and data management, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.

Well-rounded knowledge of research/evaluation methods, study design and analysis

Is thoroughly familiar with quantitative research methods utilizing primary and secondary quantitative health related data sets.

Strong computer skills.

Excellent analytical, communication, and interpretative skills and excellent oral and verbal communication skills.

Ability to prioritize work and assignment, work independently and be a team player.

Tobacco or related evaluation experience is desirable.
