Senior Advancement Officer
Basic Function
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Institutional Advancement, the Senior Advancement Officer will manage assigned portfolios of major gift prospects and develop strategies for identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major donors. Working closely with academic deans and faculty, the SAO will identify key funding opportunities that will lead to successful solicitations.
Characteristic Duties & Responsibilties
- Manage assigned portfolios of highly rated gift prospects
- Develop strategies for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of 200 to 350 major gift prospect and donors
- Cultivation of major gift prospects through 200-250 meaningful contacts through visits, mail, phone, email, etc.
- Recommend suitable giving vehicles for a particular donor, when appropriate, after evaluating various opportunities
- Expected to conduct a minimum of 150 face-to-face visits per year that lead to 20-25 major gift solicitations of $25,000 or more
- Work with the Assistant Vice President to formulate proposal strategies
- Oversee and coordinate communication with assigned prospects including thanking the donor and other forms of stewardship working with the Director of Advancement Services & Donor Relations
- The SAO will be expected to consistently track moves on a weekly and monthly basis by updating contact reports every day and preparing weekly and monthly activity reports that describe cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities
- Interact with Deans, Department Chairs and faculty to uncover fundable programs and initiatives and develop proposals
- Work closely with other Advancement and University departments to leverage events and activities to enhance prospect engagement and stewardship
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, strong analytical skills, and the ability to be a team player and to motivate donors/volunteers.
- Proven track record of successful fundraising, educational management or marketing/sales experience and the ability to cultivate and develop leadership gift prospects and secure major gifts.
- Position requires the interpersonal skills necessary to interface with a professionally diverse constituency group.
- A high level of energy, initiative and creativity is also essential
