Job Description
To provide medical care and medical direction to residents in long term care in facility based care in assisted living, skilled nursing, sub acute rehabilitation, hospice and/or ambulatory setting.
Participate in learner training in Geriatrics and Long Term Care
Responsibilities
Primary
- Provide direct medical care to patients of MatureCare that is patient centered and team oriented.
- Develop and maintain a financially viable clinic practice that is conducted in an ethical, patient centered practice in accord with generally accepted standards of care.
- Provide medical direction and oversight in facility based care.
- Provide backup or primary services in hospice and palliative care
- Review, analyze and determine the significance of a broad array of health care concerns, diagnostic tests and treatment plans including the effective use of consultants.
- Participate in COM educational programs in the classroom, small groups, skill labs, continuing education and experiential exercises as may be assigned
- Participate in and provide information for Quality Improvement initiatives for MatureCare, COM and UNE.
- Participate in on-call coverage including nights and weekends on a shared basis with other practitioners in the same clinical discipline.
- Provide timely, effective and appropriate documentation of medical services.
- Provide formal and informal instruction and supervision for medical students, residents and health professionals.
- Coordinate and monitor patient care rendered by students and residents being supervised. Prepare evaluations of residents and students supervised in a thorough and timely manner.
- Participate in community relation efforts to enhance the reputation, visibility and credibility of MatureCare, the COM and UNE
- Attend COM graduation and the White Coat Ceremony, and participate in interviewing candidates for admission to COM and other committees as assigned.
- Seek to participate in and/or conduct and mentor scholarly activity
- Understand and comply with OSHA, HIPAA and safety training requirements of UNE as specified in the employee manual
- Maintain an unrestricted Maine license to practice medicine and hospital privileges germane to the discipline, including CME and certifications
- Perform related duties as necessary
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Participates with other health team members with the supervision and evaluation of peers, support staff and assistants.
Qualifications
- Board certified in Internal Medicine or Family Practice, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired
- Broad and in-depth knowledge of long term care medicine and procedures germane to the discipline
- Formal and informal teaching, supervision and evaluation skills
- Planning and administrative skills
- Strong and effective verbal and written communication skills
- Have or be eligible for and obtain an unrestricted Maine license to practice
- Have or be eligible for and obtain hospital privileges commensurate with other members of the department.
