Head Women's Ice Hockey Coach

Job Description
The Head Coach will be responsible for all aspects of planning, developing, and coaching the women’s ice hockey team within the rules of the University of New England and NCAA Division III rules and regulations. As the head coach you will be responsible for the recruitment and development of student-athletes.Responsibilities
- Be knowledgeable of, and abide by, all University policies, NCAA Division III policies, and conference/league requirements.

- Follow established guidelines and procedures
- Complete accounting transactions for cash advances and other expenses
- Abide by NCAA Division III rules and regulations
- Participate in conference calls and attend coaches’ meetings
- Maintain current certification in CPR
- Plan, organize, direct, and lead the operations for the sport program including budgeting, traveling, counseling, teaching and coaching

- Create budget expenditures for uniforms and equipment
- Follow budget plan and stay within planned amounts
- Schedule opponents and contact opposing coaches to verify dates
- Stay current with the development of sport
- Demonstrate and communicate expertise and knowledge of sport
- Approachable to discuss student concerns about the team and/or academic issues
- Sustain a level of excellence in the quality of student experience and competitive success
- Supervise assistant coach(es)
- Attend all league meetings for your sport
- Recruit prospective student-athletes to attend the University of New England and participate on
the team. Encourage applications from a diverse group. -
- Develop an annual recruiting plan identifying specific outcomes to be achieved
- Maintain database of information regarding recruiting, including number of contacts, number applied, number visited, number accepted, and number enrolled
- Correspond with prospects using a variety of communication channels; including written, in person contact, phone, home visits, and official visits
- Plan an instructional practice and competitive schedule based on an assessment of the student-athletes’ needs, including pre and post season and traditional and non-traditional seasons (when applicable)

- Conduct organized and objective based practices
- Enhance individual as well as team skills
- Utilize various coaching strategies
- Improve athletes’ talents, skills, and development of self
- Function as a member of the department working together for common objectives.

- Communicate and cooperate with department staff to facilitate group purpose and mission
- Coordinate work with other employees or outside contractors
- Responsible for your own work
- Informally coach others and model standards of conduct
- Clearly communicate in written and verbal form
- Participate in promotions and publicity events of the department
- Attend department and campus functions as requested
- Oversee the operation of UNE Athletics’ equipment/laundry room.

- Hire and train student workers; submit Work Study timesheets
- Coordinate equipment check-out with each head coach
- Maintain a uniform rotation plan for each sport
- Ensure, in coordination with each head coach, the return of all uniforms and equipment
- Show creativity, initiative, willingness to participate, and leadership within department, profession and on campus

- Serve on committees within the University, the department, your sport, and the community
- Promote UNE Athletics to the campus and local community
- Communicate with former athletes and alumni
- Contact alumni groups outside the region when traveling for contests
- Responsible for meal arrangements, travel plans, coordination of facility usage, and daily practice plans.

- Make arrangements to feed the team when meals are missed because of the competitive schedule
- Submit monthly practice times
- Drive van to contests, if necessary
- Stay current with the sport-specific developments in the profession

- Take responsibility for one’s own self-development
- Communicate content and make presentations adaptable to a variety of audiences and styles
- Support the need for process and/or technology changes and demonstrate advantages to others.
- Suggest ways to improve efficiency of own work and the work of the department.
- Attend professional meetings of the conference, ECAC, NCAA, and others as designated by the director
- Maintain memberships in professional organizations
- Contest management duties outside of primary playing season, and additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics

• Administrative and functional supervision of assistant coach(es).
• Supervision of student workers

• Reports to the Director of Athletics
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required (master’s degree preferred) and/or related educational and/or work experience.
- Demonstrate ability to relate to, and motivate, student athletes and to work with a variety of University staff, alumni and the outside community
- Must be willing to travel extensively
- Must be willing to work nights and weekends
- Previous collegiate coaching experience required; head coaching experience preferred.
