The University of New England operates on a semester calendar and offers 15-week terms in the fall (September to December) and spring (January to May). Courses are offered during the summer on a limited basis.

Students enrolling in one of our cooperative intensive English programs should plan their enrollment to coincide with UNE terms. The IELP Portland, Maine follows a similar academic calendar to UNE.

The ELS Language Center and New England School of English offer 4-week sessions beginning at 12 different times throughout the year. This means you can start your English training at a time that best suits your schedule. Fees for each program vary and you can learn more details can be found below:

Since students enrolling in the IELP Portland, Maine are considered UNE students, they are responsible for the room and board (housing and meals) costs for the UNE Portland Campus and the fees and health insurance costs for the University of Southern Maine, Intensive English Language Program (IELP). While scholarships are not available for Intensive English language costs, qualified students may be eligible for limited scholarship to assist with undergraduate costs at UNE.
