UNE Safe Space

UNE Safe Space is a three-hour training program that helps you understand the challenges that many lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered persons experience. The program includes reflective exercises, discussion, and interactive activities that help to shape a school culture that is accepting of all people, inclusive of sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, or any other difference. You emerge from the program better prepared to be a supportive and visible ally, and you receive a door sign to let people know your area is a “Safe Space” to be open about themselves without fear of criticism or hatred. Everyone deserves to learn and work in an environment that is supportive and friendly, and Safe Space combats the anti-LGBTQ bias that affects school performance and the mental and emotional health of students who experience it.

Contact the Office of Intercultural Student Engagement at or (207) 602-2826 to schedule a Safe Space training for your group, or to find out when the next training session will be held.
