myUNE Student Portal FAQ
Q. What is myUNE?
A. myUNE is the new student portal. It will replace Campus Pipeline in form and function beginning June 2006. It will sport all of the familiar features that you've grown accustomed to in Campus Pipeline, plus many more.
Q. What is Campus Cruiser?
A. Campus Cruiser is myUNE. Campus Cruiser is the name of the Student Portal product that we have purchased from Time Cruiser Computing Corporation. When you find references to Campus Cruiser in any of "Help" or other documentation, please think myUNE.
Q. Okay, now how to do I get there?
A. Point your favorite web browser to the myUNE website. You can also find a link at the bottom of the UNE webpage. Click the eServices link.
We recommend using any of these browsers:
| |
- |
Mozilla FireFox |
| |
- |
Internet Explorer |
| |
- |
Safari(Safari is Macintosh only) |
Java and Cookies should be enabled. If your browser automatically blocks pop-up windows, you may need to disable this feature. Please check your browser's settings.
Q. Will I lose all of my Campus Pipeline e-mail when we switch to the new system?
A. No! Campus Pipeline will remain up and running for some time to come. Although you will not be able to receive e-mail in Campus Pipeline, you will still be able to login and review existing emails and, if you like, forward important ones to your new student e-mail address or to some other e-mail account that you might have access to.
Q. What about all of the contacts in my Campus Pipeline Address Book- will I lose them, can I use them with myUNE?
A. Don't worry, you can import them into myUNE. All you have to do is export your Address Book contacts, in Campus Pipeline (exporting to the Microsoft Outlook .csv format seems to work the best) and then simply import that very same file into myUNE using the Import/Export Contacts feature. It's that easy, and when you're done all of your former Campus Pipeline contacts will appear in your myUNE Address Book.
(Remember, if you have lots of @pipeline.une.edu e-mail address in your Address Book, please take care to change the addresses from @pipeline.une.edu to mail.une.edu. Initially we will be forwarding all e-mails that come to us with the @pipeline.une.edu address to the appropriate myUNE account, but this will not go on indefinitely, so please plan accordingly.)
Q. What will my new e-mail address be?
A. Your unique e-mail user name will be the same user name that you use(d) with Campus Pipeline, but the e-mail address will change from:
| |
- |
jdoe@pipeline.une.edu |
| |
- |
to: |
| |
- |
jdoe@mail.une.edu. |
Q. Can I forward myUNE e-mail to another e-mail account and if so, how?
A. Yes, you can forward your myUNE e-mail to another account of your choosing.
To do so, please follow these simple steps (Of course you need to be logged in first.):
| |
- |
Go to your myUNE e-mail page. |
| |
- |
Look for the Tools menu box located on the left side of the screen; select Filters |
| |
- |
Select the Forwarding Filter tab; enter the e-mail address that you wish to forward your myUNE e-mail to. You're done; your myUNE e-mail will now be delivered to the e-mail address that you specified. |
Remember, if you choose to keep a copy of all the e-mail that you receive, you need to be mindful of your e-mail storage quota. (Currently 100MB) If your myUNE In Box becomes too full, you may no longer receive your e-mail. Be sure to periodically check and delete any unnecessary e-mail from your myUNE account.
Q. Why are you forcing me to use and learn a new student portal system?
A. UNE has been using Campus Pipeline for five years now, and though it has served us well in that time, it has reached E.o.L. (end of life) status as the software is no longer supported by the current copyright owners. Continuing to
use Campus Pipeline in this fashion means, in non-technical speak, that if something breaks in Campus Pipeline, it's much harder to fix or in some cases maybe not at all. So over the last six months, ITS, along with many University departments, students, and other constituents have evaluated several portal products and decided upon Time Cruiser's, Campus Cruiser student portal system as the best fit for UNE. This is what we are talking about when we refer to myUNE.
Q. Is some one going to show me how to use the new student portal?
A. Yes, ITS, along with student affairs will be holding workshops and orientations during the summer and into the fall for new and returning students. Every effort will be made to communicate the dates and times to all those concerned.
Q. Will I have to remember another Login ID and Password in order to login to myUNE?
A. No! Your myUNE Login ID and Password will be the same as your Campus Pipeline User Name and Password. In an effort to cut down on the number or user names and passwords that UNE students have to know and remember, UNE will be using this user name and password pair for the newly upgraded learning management system (WebCT) as well. New students will be supplied their unique user name and password during student orientation.
Q. What if I don't know what my Login ID is?
A. You can check to see what your Login ID is by submitting the appropriate information here. Click on the “Find your PRN (new UNE ID)” link, it will redirect you to the secure site for form submission.
Q. I've forgotten my Password, now what do I do?
A. You should call the Help Desk for further assistance.
The Help Desk can be reached;
University Campus, Monday – Thursdays, 8:00 A.M. - 6:00 P.M,
and Fridays, 8:00 A.M. - 4:30 P.M,
by telephone (207) 602-2200.
Westbrook College Campus, Monday – Fridays, 8:00 A.M. - 4:30 P.M.
by telephone (207) 221-4400
Q. How do I change my Password?
A. First, you'll need to log in to myUNE. Once you do that, look for the Change Password link in the left hand column. Click on the link to open the secure Change Password form, where you'll be asked for your Log In ID, Password, and then you can enter a new Password.
Q. Can I use my favorite e-mail program, such as Outlook, Eudora, or Mozilla Thunderbird, to send and receive myUNE e-mail?
A. No. If you need to access or prefer to acces your e-mail in this fashion, please forward your myUNE e-mail to another e-mail account that supports POP3 connectivity.
Q. Can I archive myUNE e-mail?
A. Yes. myUNE e-mail can be archived for the purposes of saving messages that you wish to keep for future reference. Currently, these e-mail applications are supported for this feature: Netscape version 4.7.x and Netscape 6.2 or higher. Also, support for Eudora MBX format is available.
Q. Will UNE communicate official messages via myUNE?
A. Yes. The whole idea behind a student portal is that it provides a central place for the University to communicate with its students and other assorted constituents. Also it provides a unified tool for faculty to communicate with their students and students to communicate with their faculty members. We strongly encourage you to use and consider myUNE more than just another e-mail application.
Q. Do I have to be on campus to access myUNE?
A. No! You can access myUNE from anywhere you have Internet connectivity.
Q. Will you continue to filter e-mail for spam (junk e-email), spyware, and viruses?
A. You bet! We will be using the very same tools that we're currently using to filter your e-mail for malicious software and junk e-mail. Since it is nearly impossible to stop all junk e-mail from getting through to your in boxes, please don't take it as a sign that we're not filtering your e-mail should you still receive junk e-mail messages. As always, we must weigh the chance that some junk e-mail reach our users against being too restrictive, and thereby inadvertently preventing legitimate e-mail messages from reaching you.
Q. Does myUNE have a built-in “Help” system?
A. Yes. myUNE has an extensive and user friendly “Help” system.
Q. Does myUNE use "cookies"?
A. Yes. Cookies are a general mechanism that server-side connections (such as CGI scripts) can use to both store and retrieve information on the client-side of the connection. myUNE uses cookies to keep users' sessions. No personal information is stored in these cookies, and myUNE cookies will be destroyed once you close the browser window.
Q. Why does myUNE log me out without selecting the log out button?
A. If your idle time in the myUNE system exceeds 30 minutes, then you will be logged out automatically. Before continuing to use your account, you will be prompted to log in again. For security purpose, users who are idle for 27 minutes within myUNE are provided 3 minutes warning that their session will time out. Selecting "Yes" on the warning message will extent the user's session for another 30 minutes.
Q. Can I personalize my myUNE page?
A. You can customize the myUNE section to your liking. In myUNE, you can select which shortcuts to your personal features are displayed, as well as the sequence in which they occur.
Q. What do I do if I share a computer?
A. Please remember to log out and / or close the browser window after you finish your myUNE session. This will prevent other people from accessing your personal information.
