ProQuest Central

ProQuest's periodical, journal and newspaper content covers a wide range of academic, professional and news topics. Broad subject areas include: social sciences; humanities; health & medicine, and nursing; education; business; general science; general interest and women's interest.

What Is ProQuest Central?
ProQuest Central is a premier online information database providing convenient search and retrieval to one of the largest collections of information. It includes summaries of articles from over 5,000 publications, with many in full-text, full-image format. Indexing and abstracting backfiles date back to 1986.

Log-On Instruction:

  • From within the alphabetical listing of databases, select ProQuest Central. (If you are accessing ProQuest from off-campus, you will be prompted for your last name and 14-digit barcode from your UNE ID-card.)

Steps To A ProQuest Research Library Search:

  • At the flashing cursor type your search word or phrase; click on  Scholarly journals, including peer-reviewed to search only scholarly, including peer-reviewed journals; and then click on Search.
    Ex.  elder abuse <Search>
  • At the Results list click on the (blue) article title to view the full record with abstract.
  • Mark records desired by clicking on the box to the left of each citation within the Results list.
  • Click on the My Research tab to review selected records, print out a bibliography or email articles.
  • Print out available articles by clicking on Page Image-PDF (first choice); or Full text (second choice); or Article Linker (third choice).

Searching Tips:

  • At any point click on Help for screen specific assistance.
  • Use additional dialog boxes to create a complex search.
  • Use AND to narrow a search.
    Ex.  elder abuse and statistics
  • Use OR to broaden a search.
    Ex.  elder abuse or adult abuse
  • Use AND NOT to exclude concepts from a search
    Ex. elder abuse and not fraud
  • Select the Topics tab for specific subject headings and more precise searching.
  • Find similar documents by selecting More Like This.
  • Select the Publications tab to find a specific issue of a specific periodical.
  • To check journal availability (or Holdings) in print format and/or electronic format, use the Libraries Catalog on the UNE Library Services homepage.
