ProQuest Nursing Journals

A useful database for both clinicians and students is ProQuest Nursing Journals.

What Is the ProQuest Nursing Journals Database?
ProQuest Nursing Journals indexes and abstracts over 550 nursing and allied health journals from 1986 forward. It includes complete full text and imaging for over 400 publications from 1996 forward.

Log-On Instruction:

  • At the UNE Library Services homepage select Database by Subject; within  "Go to Section:" select Medicine & Allied Health.
  • From within the alphabetical listing of 40+ Medicine & Allied Health databases, click on ProQuest Nursing Journals. (If you are accessing ProQuest from off-campus, you will be prompted for your last name and the last 7 digits of the barcode from your UNE ID-card.)

Steps To A ProQuest Nursing Journals Search:

  • On the Advanced Search page type your search word or phrase; click on  Scholarly journals, including peer-reviewed to search only scholarly, including peer-reviewed journals; and then click on Search.
    Ex.  elder abuse <Search>
  • At the Results list click on the (blue) article title to view the full record with abstract.
  • Mark records desired by clicking on the box to the left of each citation within the Results list.
  • Click on the My Research tab to review selected records, print out a bibliography or email articles.
  • Print out available full text articles by clicking on Page Image-PDF (first choice) or Text+Graphics (second choice).
  • Click on Article Linker for possible full text availability in other databases.

Searching Tips:

  • At any point click on Help for screen specific assistance.
  • Use AND to narrow a search.
    Ex.  elder abuse and statistics
  • Use OR to broaden a search.
    Ex.  elder abuse or adult abuse
  • Use AND NOT to exclude concepts from a search
    Ex. elder abuse and not fraud
  • Select the Topics tab or Browse Topics for specific subject headings and more precise searching.
  • Revise your search by checking Suggested Topics at the bottom of the page.
  • Select Publications to find a specific issue of a specific periodical.
