UNE Libraries' MaineCat FAQs

What is MaineCat?

The MaineCat statewide catalog links library collections of academic and public libraries throughout Maine. A single search scans more than 2,500,000 unique titles and nearly 6 million items.

Who can borrow items through MaineCat?

UNE faculty/staff/students holding a valid UNE ID may request items through MaineCat.

Is there a charge for MaineCat borrowing?

There is no charge for MaineCat borrowing; however, charges may be assessed for overdue, unreturned, or damaged materials.

What is the delivery time for MaineCat requests?

Delivery is generally 7-14 days.  Borrowers will be notified by email when the item has arrived. MaineCat items may be returned to either campus library.

How do I request an item through MaineCat?

Search for the item in the UNE Libraries' catalog. If UNE does not own the item:
· select SEARCH MaineCat
· select DISPLAY HOLDINGS OF MaineCat LIBRARIES to confirm availability
· select REQUEST THIS ITEM
· from the pull down menu, choose UNE as your affiliated institution; SUBMIT above information
· enter your name and UNE ID barcode number
· choose your preferred UNE campus library for pickup
· select SUBMIT

Can MaineCat items be renewed? 

MaineCat items may be renewed for 2 additional weeks, upon request.

What if I can't find an item in MaineCat?

Items not available through MaineCat may be requested through Interlibrary Loan.
