Scholarly Research Journals:
See Databases by Subject--History and American Studies
Some good material will emerge from Academic Search Premier and ProQuest Research Library, but make sure you select only scholarly or peer-reviewed journals.
Project MUSE is a very good bet. Use the advanced search function, and search "all fields EXCEPT text" for better relevance.
JSTOR provides journal backfiles in many fields. Use the advanced search form, select you disciplines/journals thoughtfully, consider limiting search to title and abstract--otherwise, JSTOR can bring back a bewildering array of marginal articles. The "print" function is tricky, follow instructions to the letter--requires a right click and download.
Info on how to locate a specific journal article is here: /library/eresources/findjour.asp
Interlibrary loan forms for articles in journals UNE does not have are here:
/library/services/ill/default.asp
Consult with a reference librarian for further recommendations and search assistance.
Books:
Search the UNE Libraries catalog.
Subject headings beginning "Europe--History" or do keyword search, then peruse subject headings.
MaineCat: You can switch to MaineCat from the UNE Libraries catalog or search it directly
MaineCat shows you the combined holdings of the UMaine system, Bates, Bowdoin, Colby, UNE, and other academic libraries. This is a great resource for history students. Use the "Request this item" function to have a book delivered to UNE.
World Library Catalogs: if you are looking to be comprehensive, or looking for a needle in a haystack, this is the place. WorldCat shows the holdings of major US and European research libraries. We can borrow books in the lower 48 US States, use an Interlibrary Loan form for books:
Note: this is a tricky search interface, you may need help.
