America: History and Life is the database of choice for American Studies topics. A:HL is a comprehensive file including abstracting and indexing of the full range of U.S. and Canadian history, area studies, current affairs and literature. It includes coverage of history, interdisciplinary studies of historical interest, and history-related topics in the humanities from 1982 forward.

Additional periodical indexes available in the Abplanalp Library reference area are: The Readers' Guide to Periodical Literature, a paper index providing periodical indexing back to 1890; Humanities Index, a paper index covering the humanities from 1989; and Essay and General Literature Index, a paper index covering the contents of selected book chapters and essays from 1970 through 1994.
