Judith A. Metcalf

imageJudith A. Metcalf, APRN, BC, M.S. began as the director of the Maine University of New England Geriatric Education Center December 1, 2003. Judy has her bachelor's in nursing from Salem State College Salem, Mass., her master's from Boston University and her Post-Master's Adult Nurse Practitioner Certification in Primary Health Care Nursing from Simmons College.

She has practiced as a clinical nurse leader in neurology/neurosurgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital and as a clinical nurse specialist in neurology/neurosurgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital Philadelphia, Pa. Prior to joining the University of New England she was on the faculty of the University of New Hampshire where she taught nursing students, both undergraduate adult health and graduate nurse practitioner students in the Adult Health Program. Judy's position as director UNE-MGEC is complemented by her involvement in the UNE Mature Care Practice, as a nurse practitioner, providing primary care to elders in residential, assisted living, rehabilitation and long term care settings.

Charlotte A. Paolini

imageCharlotte A. Paolini, D.O. graduated from UNECOM in 1989. She did a rotating internship at Doctor's Hospital in Massillon, Ohio, and then went on to complete a family medicine residency- training program at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, Maine.

Since that time she has worked in family medicine and geriatrics in various settings. Currently, she is assistant professor of family medicine and geriatric at UNECOM. Dr. Paolini teaches the Geriatric Practicum to 2nd year medical students and practices clinical geriatrics with the University Health Center's MatureCare practice. Dr. Paolini also is the physician member of the Alzheimer's Geriatric Evaluation Service team for University Health Care.

Dr. Paolini lives in Biddeford, Maine, with two very bright Persian cats. She enjoys spending time each year in West Africa working at an orphanage and clinic.

Sue Stableford

imageSue Stableford, M.P.H., M.S.B., is the co-founder and Director of the Health Literacy Institute, Center for Health Policy, Planning and Research. She has provided plain language training, consulting, and materials development services for 18 years and is nationally known as an expert in the field. Sue is the plain language trainer for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Massachusetts General Hospital, and other public health and medical care organizations. She and her colleagues in the Clear Language Group present at national forums, participate in research and advocacy efforts, teach in health professions education programs, and publish in peer reviewed journals. Sue has been selected each year since 2003 as a Pfizer-sponsored Health Literacy Visiting Professor. She has an undergraduate degree in political science from Oberlin College and masters degrees in public health and business.

Kathryn Thompson

imageKathryn Thompson received her Ph.D. in nutritional biochemistry from Cornell University in 1982. She has been a member of the faculty the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine since 1982. She is chairman of the department of biochemistry and nutrition, director of academic technology and program manager for distance education. She is a Registered Dietitian and has been a member of the American Dietetic Association since 1983.
