UNE Maine Geriatric Education Center 4 part Seminar Series "Living Art-Living Well Studio"
UNE Maine Geriatric Education Center and St Mary's d'Youville partnered to bring the 4 part Seminar Series "Living Art-Living Well Studio"
Each of the two hour seminars will feature a Maine master older artist and will include artist demonstration and facilitated discussion. The UNE-MGEC in partnership with St Mary's d'Youville, Cultural Resources, Inc. and the Maine Arts Commission is offering this model learning seminar series to increase awareness and knowledge regarding the impact of Art in Aging and how creativity matters to the health of the body, mind and spirit of older adults. We invite UNE and community health professional/providers, health professions faculty and students to participate in the 4 part seminar series "Living Art-Living Well Studio"
These activities are developed by establishing academic community partnerships, providing health professions education, increasing awareness of supportive resources, providing faculty development opportunities and developing distance education.
The UNE-MGEC is located at the University of New England (Portland Campus), but serves the entire state of Maine.
Maine is now one of the oldest states in the country. There is an urgent need among health professions to be educated in best practice geriatrics especially in the rural and underserved areas of the state. The target audience of the UNE-MGEC includes Maine’s health care providers, health professions faculty/students, community providers/agencies serving older adults and older adults/families/caregivers.
What is a GEC?
“The national network of Geriatric Education Centers (GECs) is dedicated to improving the education/training, supply, distribution and quality of health care professionals through strong community-academic partnerships; ultimately to improve the quality of health care for all elderly individuals; including the underserved and minorities.”
