The Collection Facility
The Maine Women Writers Collection renovation recommended in 1997 by the MWWC Advisory Committee and approved by then-UNE President Sandra Featherman, began in the spring of 1998 and ended in the spring of 2000. Funded through the Collection's endowment, made up in large part by a gift from art dealer John Payson, highlights of the renovations include:
|
A redesigned and expanded Maine Women Writers Collection Wing with closed book stacks, a quiet reading room for historical research, a preservation work area, and an elegant public area for lectures and quiet reading. Dispersion of multiple data jacks for more use and access with personal laptops for research purposes. A heating, cooling and ventilation system that meets archival standards for preservation. A state-of-the-art fire suppression system that will not damage rare material during fire suppression. | ||
