The Collection Facility
Renovation to the Maine Women Writers Collection, recommended in 1997 by the MWWC Advisory Committee and approved by then-UNE President Sandra Featherman, began in 1998 and ended in 2000. Funded through the Collection's endowment, highlights of the renovations include:
- A redesigned and expanded Maine Women Writers Collection Wing with closed book stacks, a quiet reading room for historical research, a preservation work area, and an elegant public area for lectures and quiet reading.
- A heating, cooling and ventilation system that meets archival standards for preservation.
- A state-of-the-art fire suppression system that will not damage rare material during fire suppression.
