The Dorothy M. Healy Professorship of Literature was established in 1990, named in honor of the Collection's co-founder and first curator. A full-time faculty member in the Department of English, the Healy Professor also serves as the faculty director of the MWWC. The Healy Professor conducts research in the Collection and disseminates the results of this research in various public forums.
In cooperation with the Curator, the Healy Professor is also responsible for promoting, developing, and encouraging use of the Collection. Thus, the Healy Professor organizes the MWWC's academic conferences and helps the Curator with other public and academic programming; advises the Curator about collection development and acquisitions; runs the Research Support Grant program and supports the Collection's use by undergraduates; and performs many other duties designed to enhance the MWWC's value to UNE students, to scholars, and to the community.
Throughout its history, the Healy Professor position has been both a full-time, long-term appointment and a visiting professorship, held by the following individuals:

Jennifer S. Tuttle Contact: (207) 221-4443 As a member of the Department of English, Jennifer S. Tuttle teaches courses in literature and health, women's studies, U.S. literatures, and the American West. Her published work on these and other topics has appeared in numerous journals and edited collections, and she has recently released a scholarly edition of Charlotte Perkins Gilman's novel The Crux. She is Coeditor of Legacy: A Journal of American Women Writers. As the Dorothy M. Healy Chair, Professor Tuttle is the faculty director of the Maine Women Writers Collection, housed at UNE's Abplanalp Library on the Westbrook College Campus. She also co-directs UNE's Women's Studies Program. | ||
