Free pre-conference walking tour: Portland Women’s History Waterfront Trail 
Friday, March 30th, 3:15 p.m.


The Portland Women’s History Waterfront Trail guides participants from the old center of the Irish community at Gorham’s Corner past living and working places and down to the waterfront where women packed fish, canned vegetables, bundled matches, and stitched sweatbands and trimming on men’s felt hats.  For more information and instructions on where to meet the tour, read the full description of the tour.

Friday evening reception and reading: Free and open to the public
Reception and conference registration 6:00 -7:00 p.m. at the Art Gallery
Reading 7:00 -9:00 p.m. at WCHP Lecture Hall in the
Parker Pavilion

A reading and discussion by Abenaki poet and fiction writer Cheryl Savageau, Maliseet artist and author Mihku Paul, and Métis Blackfoot/Mohawk/Seneca poet and fiction writer Susan Deer Cloud.  The three writers will read from their work and discuss reclaiming Native space, retelling Native history, bearing witness, and adaptation and celebration of the survival of Native culture.
