The Penny Cups

During the first year of their marriage, when they had only Peary's lieutenant's salary, Robert and Josephine agreed that she could save all their pennies and spend them as she wished. She wanted a set of cups that she had spied in a shop window. At the end of the year, she had saved $40 to buy them. The family always referred to them as "Mother's penny cups."

Sentence on tea cloth translated: I have lived a long time but have never seen a woman like you.
