Searching for Books and Periodicals

There are two modes for searching MWWC Resources: the UNE Libraries Catalog, and the Finding Aid.

How to use the UNE Libraries Catalog for best results in MWWC resources

To search items in the UNE catalog, follow this link to the UNE Catalog. This will take you to a pre-defined search including, alphabetically by title, the book and periodical materials. This list may be browsed, but it is extensive. In addition to browsing, there are two other search options:

1) use the search mode at the top of the page to search author, title, subject, or keyword. Be careful as this will take you out into the entire catalog and your search results will include works in the circulating collection; take note of the indications in the location field.

2) follow the link at the top called "Limit or Sort Search". This page enables the user to subdivide the Collection records by "Words in the Author, or Title, or Subject" and other criteria. The subject field contains Library of Congress Subject headings, along with Genre headings, such as "Poetry" or "Children's Literature"; other search options on this page include date ranges, publisher, and more.

Currently, collection level records of significant authors' collections are in process of being mounted on the online public access catalog. Therefore, if you search ‘author=Coatsworth, Elizabeth', you will find her published books alphabetically by title as well as an entry for ‘Elizabeth Jane Coatsworth Collection," which will give a brief biographical sketch for that author and a scope note describing the nature of the holdings for this author in MWWC. If you search this way and do not find a collection level record for this author you may want to shift to searching the Finding Aid if your interest is in archival material.

Sub-collections of books

The MWWC holds several unique literary sub-collections from the libraries of individual authors. These may be searched in the catalog as ‘Author=[author's last name] Collection:'
