Dawne Marie Dunbar attains designation of Certified Nurse Educator (CNE)

The University of New England Department of Nursing is pleased to announce that Dawne Marie Dunbar MS, RN has attained the designation of Certified Nurse Educator (CNE).  Achievement of certification is awarded to candidates after successfully completing a rigorous certification examination developed and administered by the National League for Nursing (NLN).  Inaugurated in 2005, this program established nursing education as a specialty area for advanced practice.  It is a formal means for faculty to demonstrate expertise in the role as academic nurse educator.  Certification recognizes the academic nurse educator’s specialized knowledge and capacity for teaching and learning, curriculum development and evaluation, continuous quality improvement, engagement in scholarship, leadership and advancement of nursing in a higher education environment. The University of New England Department of Nursing is the ONLY program in the State of Maine with a substantial number of faculty earning the CNE designation. Currently, eight (8) faculty have successfully achieved this credential.
