Brian Duff quoted in story on chances of Maine gubernatorial candidate Eliot Cutler

Brian Duff, Ph.D., associate professor of political science, was quoted in a news story in Foster's Daily Democrat on Oct. 26, 2010 that analyzed the chances of Maine independent gubernatorial candidate Eliot Cutler winning the Nov.2nd election. Recent polls have launched Cutler into double-digits — an achievement reminiscent of James Longley, who came from behind in 1975 to become Maine's first Independent governor. "Cutler is genuinely in the middle between these two candidates (Republican Paul LePage and Democrat Elizabeth Mitchell)," Duff said. "LePage is a classic conservative Republican and Cutler has a more entrepreneurial approach to government. He believes in charter schools and he's introducing elements of competition where he can and has a lot of new ideas on how to do budgeting. He's genuinely in the middle, but he's middle-left." Duff added that Cutler is at an advantage because LePage and Mitchell have been "doing a good job" of beating on each other and themselves.
