Marine Animal Rehabilitation Center noted in Smithsonian Magazine and Our Net News

The University of New England's Marine Animal Rehabilitation Center (MARC) was noted in a May 2010 Smithsonian Magazine feature story on rescuing endangered turtles from Cape Cod beaches. Writer Amy Sutherland was on hand in Cape Cod in October 2009 as volunteers rescued cold-stunned turtles from the beaches. Seventeen of the 85 rescued turtles were finally transported to UNE for rehabilitation. The turtle that writer Sutherland rescued was named "Voyageurs," and it is a current patient at MARC (see photo at right). The story appears online with a video of a turtle release on July 30, 2008 at Dowses Beach in Osterville, Cape Cod, Mass., a release in which MARC staff participated. MARC was also noted in a video on Our Net News posted April 18, 2010. The video shows the release of three sea turtles by the Georgia Sea Turtle Center. The Kemps ridley turtle Kneivel was rehabilitated at MARC.
