Anouar Majid publishes column on future of Moroccan reforms in Morocco World News

Anouar Majid, Ph.D., director of the Center for Global Humanities and associate provost for global initiatives, published a column in Morocco World News on Nov. 16, 2011, titled "Freedom and Salvation in Morocco."

The column looks at the possible future of Moroccan politics in the context of the history of Morocco to provide context for the upcoming Moroccan parliamentary elections on 25 November 2011 where for the first time, an elected parliament is supposed to be granted a real legislative authority.

"A society, or nation, reaches its maximum potential when it allows its members to create and prosper without fear from cops or imams. If our political, social, and economic systems were to be well regulated—as the new constitution calls for—Moroccans could potentially unleash their intellectual and economic powers to create and share, invent and sell," Majid writes.
