Excerpts of David Smith's 'The Most Dangerous Animal' published in Polish edition of Newsweek

David Livingstone Smith, Ph.D., associate professor of philosophy and religious studies, has been prominent in the international media this week.

The Argentinian magazine Nueva ran an extended interview with Smith on Oct. 24, 2011 entitled “Todos somos mentirosos” ("We're all liars"). Smith is the author of the the 2004 book Why We Lie: The Evolutionary Roots of Deception and the Unconscious Mind.

In addition, the Oct. 24-30 Polish edition of Newsweek ran an excerpt from Smith's 2007 book, The Most Dangerous Animal: Human Nature and the Origins of War, which was recently translated into Polish.

The Most Dangerous Animal, published originally by St. Martins, explores the evolutionary and psychological roots of war and genocide, with a view towards identifying what it is about human nature that makes it possible for us to treat our fellow human beings with such extraordinary brutality.

Smith's most recent book is Less Than Human: Why We Demean, Enslave, and Exterminate Others, which he recently discussed on NPR's Talk of the Nation.  Read more.
