The Daily Elk Citian focuses story on Anouar Majid's recent column on the late Dr. Michael Shadid

The Daily Elk Citian (Elk City, Oklahoma) ran a story on the famed Elk City doctor Michael Shadid based on a column by Anouar Majid, Ph.D., UNE associate provost for global initiatives and director of the Center for Global Humanities, which was recently published on the online Tabsir: Insight on Islam and the Middle East. Michael Shadid was the cousin of Anthony Shadid, the two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning foreign correspondent, who died recently while covering the conflict in Syria.

Majid explained in his column that he had recently interviewed Anthony Shadid, who told him that he had hoped to complete a book or documentary about his cousin, who pioneered the cooperative healthcare model, where patients paid a yearly rate for medical service.  Dr. Shadid also founded the Farmers Union Hospital, which later became Great Plains Regional Medical Center.
