David Smith's most recent Psychology Today blog post looks at Freud's philosophical importance

David Livingstone Smith, Ph.D., UNE associate professor of philosophy, who writes a blog for Psychology Today, posted a column titled "Freud's Cognitive Revolution."

Smith writes: "I want to concentrate Freud's philosophical importance as a critic of the conception of the human mind set out by Descartes in the 17th century, and which dominated psychological thought well into the 20th century." Read the entire post.

Smith's most recent book is Less Than Human: Why We Demean, Enslave, and Exterminate Others, which he recently discussed on NPR's Talk of the Nation. He is also the author of  Why We Lie: The Evolutionary Roots of Deception and the Unconscious Mind and The Most Dangerous Animal: Human Nature and the Origins of War.
