'Informed Comment' publishes column by Anouar Majid on 'Why America Matters to Muslims'

Anouar Majid, Ph.D., UNE associate provost for global initiatives and director of the Center for Global Humanities, contributed a column to Informed Comment titled "Why America Matters to Muslims."

In the column Majid provides an overview of the history of U.S. Muslim relations and urges action by both the U.S. and Muslims to build on the positive relationships that have surfaced during the Arab Spring.

"Americans can still teach Muslims how to build nations that keep religion and politics safely apart and how to unleash the creative spirit of enterprise, but the United States must also get its house in order, too, and fix its fast deteriorating social structures without delay. When a nation is a city upon a hill it can’t afford to neglect its affairs. As President Obama would say, this is the time for change. We can’t afford to wait."

Majid is the author of four critically acclaimed books on Islam and the West, including We Are All Moors: Ending Centuries of Crusades against Muslims and Other Minorities.
