Artwork by Debra Yoo on display at Campus Center

A collection of paintings by Debra Yoo, will be on display at the University of New England’s Biddeford Campus Center from May 3 to May 31, 2014.

Yoo earned a degree in fine arts and the humanities from the University of Chicago. She has been represented by galleries in Chicago, Boston, Cincinnati and Maine. Her work hangs in numerous private, government, and corporate collections across the United States and internationally, including the U.S. Department of State, Fidelity Investments, and United Airlines.

After focusing on still life painting for almost twenty years, Yoo moved to Maine in 1996 to pursue her growing interest in landscape painting. She has taught painting and drawing for the continuing education departments of Maine College of Art and the University of Southern Maine. This summer she will teach a workshop titled “Examining Your Painting Process” at Rock Gardens Inn in Sebasco Estates, Maine.

Yoo stated, “I am drawn to intense color and light as well as the tension that strong diagonals and ‘negative space’ create in a composition…What engages and fascinates me the most are compositional relationships that develop as I am painting and are only fully apparent to me when it is finished.”

The exhibit is free and open to the public.  UNE’s Campus Center is located at 11 Hills Beach Road, Biddeford, Maine.  Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  For more information, contact Diane Noble.
