Dora Mills participates in think tank on integrating public health with health care

Dora Anne Mills, MD, MPH, FAAP, vice president for clinical affairs at UNE, participated in a two-day invitation-only think tank on integrating public health with health care on May 4-5, 2014.

About 50 health leaders from across the country participated in the event, held at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.  Sponsored by the National Interprofessional Education Collaborative in D.C., the National Center for Interprofessional Education at the University of Minnesota, and the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health, the event resulted in the generation of a number of ideas on how population health strategies can be integrated into clinical professional education curricula and training.

Mills served on the steering committee for this event. One of the featured speakers was Stephen Shannon, DO, MPH, former dean of UNE’s College of Osteopathic Medicine and current executive director of the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine.

“I am proud that UNE is a leader in this integration movement, which is necessary as our health care system evolves from an illness-driven system to a health-focused system,” commented Mills. “UNE offers a number of clinically-focused public health trainings, and our health professional programs include a focus on public health.”
