Jeff Nevers quoted in Cardhub article on summer vacation career advice

On July 23, 2014, the website Cardhub published an article quoting Jeff Nevers, M.A., coordinator of Career Services.  The article, titled “Ask the Experts:  Tips for Turning Summer Break into a Brighter Future,” incorporates advice from 19 individuals who work in the field of career services.

In the article, Nevers offers suggestions to high school and college students on topics such as “How to find the right kind of job or internship for the summer,” to “At what age does career-specific experience  start becoming a priority?” to “What types of positions are best for people who don’t really know what they want to do yet?”

Nevers’ advice also puts young people at ease regarding the inclusion of “menial labor” jobs on their resumes.  “Survival jobs are sometimes necessary and help build a track record, which lets future employers see your potential and your flexibility,” he shares.  “They help workers build skills too, like collaboration, attention to detail, and communication—skills you’ll be using in any job, even CEO.”
