Anouar Majid gives public lecture in Tangier on Moroccan identity

Anouar Majid, Ph.D., vice president for Global Affairs and director of the Center for Global Humanities,  gave a public lecture titled "Le monde arabe en panne de leadership" (The crisis of leadership in the Arab world) at the Salle Beckett of Tangier on February 12, 2015.

Majid discussed the idea of leadership and what it might mean for Arabs. He explained that Arabism and Islam are so intertwined and so under-analyzed as related concepts that much work needs to be done before Moroccans have a better grasp of their imagined identity. He also made the case for classical patriotism to counter abstract ideas like "Arab nationalism."

The lecture was part of a series offered by the Université Citoyenne (Citizens’ University) sponsored by the Institut des Hautes Etudes de Management (HEM), in collaboration with the French Institute.
