Doreen Fanton presents at the American Public Health Association annual meeting

Doreen Fanton, M.P.H., B.S.N., R.N., May 2015 graduate of the Master of Public Health (MPH) program, will present at the 143rd American Public Health Association annual meeting, held in Chicago, Illinois, October 31 to November 1, 2015.

Fanton’s submission, “Who is the ‘Community’ in Community Outreach?” reflects findings from field work completed during her MPH Practical Experience. It explores barriers to participation in Chronic Disease Self-Management programs among African American adults living in a New York State community, as well as strategies to improve outreach to this population.

The abstract was coauthored by Rebecca J. Boulos, M.P.H., Ph.D., assistant clinical professor in the School of Community and Population Health, and will be presented on November 1 for Public Health Education and Health Promotion.
