Jennifer Gunderman assists with HIV/AIDS surveillance system in Haiti

Jennifer Gunderman, M.P.H., assistant lecturer for the School of Community and Population Health, provided technical assistance to enhance the HIV/AIDS surveillance system in Haiti from March 9-13.

As part of a team of advisors and staff from the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD), Gunderman worked with stakeholders to improve data quality and reporting. Specifically, she assisted with the development of an HIV care cascade that analyzes the proportion of HIV cases in care and receiving treatment with the goal of viral suppression.

Gunderman’s work will allow for data driven decisions focused on HIV/AIDS prevention interventions, counseling, testing, care and treatment. In addition, she co-created the syllabus and materials for an applied epidemiology class taught to students in Haiti pursuing their M.P.H. degree.
